I have my M.Ed.in School Counseling from the University of Massachusetts & am a former school counselor and consultant in the public schools.
I am trained with the Federation for Children as a Special Education Advocate.
I am trained in the SOS Signs of Suicide program for Middle & High School kids.
I am trained in INDEPTH: Intervention for Nicotine Dependence: Education, Prevention, Tobacco and Health through the American Lung Association.
Finally, I have been trained through Care Dimensions to run grief support groups and provide individual and group support for both children and adults.
I have over 25 years of experience working in diverse environments with children, adolescents and their families in my professional career. I have a very individualized and flexible approach with all families that I work with. This includes access to me throughout the week as life doesn’t stop and sometimes we need a quick check in. I provide individual counseling and consulting services as well as family work (both virtual and in person). I also provide Educational Consulting/Advocacy services to help families ensure that their children receive a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE). I have created a who, what, where, when, how curriculum on communicating with your child and adolescent. I provide tangible and accessible parent support on communicating with your child and within your family system.
A big focus of what I do is to help folks open up and build their skills to be able to; understand and express all of their emotions, communicate (including non-verbal cues, assertive communication, how to be part of a conversation, etc), and make and maintain friendships through social skills practice. This can include breaking down all or nothing thinking, identifying small & big problems, enabling flexibility and unexpected changes. I also help with overthinking strategies, executive function challenges, coping with anxiety, fears, frustrations, sadness, grief, trauma or anger in ways that aren’t harmful, etc.
Finally, I work closely with the schools and have vast experience with school anxiety as schools are often a place of conflict and stress. My vast school counseling and life experience, ability to connect with kids and adults as well as my commitment to meeting your child and family where they are at to help them reach realistic attainable goals sets me apart from traditional providers. I believe families are integral to the well being of their children and important partners in this work. I am also a parent to two great humans in their 20’s who have had their many shares of ups and downs.
* Please note: my M.Ed. in school counseling does not allow for me to diagnose or take insurance.
